In a jar of alchemy The sands of mind washed in from the sea On a sinking boat Navigating the tangled thread In a snag at the edge of the bed A well-worn plot Written in an aching need The book with the shining seed Could not float I awoke in the early morning I thought to tell you something But I forget what it was now anyway It’s good of you to stay I saw myself in shattered mirrors Each an echo of the other’s features But never the same The pieces hung on to the wall Held a while before they fall From the game But if they could resolve To flow as they dissolve My name I awoke in the early morning I thought to tell you something But I forget what it was now anyway It’s good of you to stay I had a dream, beautiful In a garden there grew Shining trees Fruit and vines in the night The plants shone a strange light From their leaves I drew closer to the colored shapes Illuminating the folds of my cape And my sleeves And of a sudden heard a sound Buzzing soft all around Without a breeze Flying in the garden where Flowers touched my hands and hair Thousands of bees I awoke in the early morning I thought to tell you something But I forget what it was now anyway It’s good of you to stay

Sial at Play 07:44
Sial sings songs south of the river — Sial the sage Sial serves voices so strangely they seem — Sial the mourner There are no challengers here to his strange mystery In the ages when his wild angels were wandering South of the river to the cemetery calling Out of the wild wilderness wandering The forest of bones amid the wild wolves howling Lately in mourning south of the river — Sial the Angel Sial the sage of the ages is calling — He wanders no more He watches and waits through the wind and the wild storm All through the lands of the lilting lovers The babies of angels their sons and their daughters Following down through fields they wandered The forest of bones amid the wild wolves howling Sial sings songs south of the river — Sial the sage Sial serves voices so strangely they seem — Sial the Mourner He watches and waits through the wind And the wild storm Sial the sage of the ages is calling — Sial the angel Sial the sage, the mourner, the angel — He wanders no more

Julia Willow 04:32
Julia Willow Drooping fingers down, teasing the ground Her gown swaying in moonlight and dew Julia Willow With ten thousand twigs of whispering sound Falling her leaves Lost to the breeze Branches waving, a fluttering tree Julia Willow Loosened hair drifting over the air Her gown playing in moonlight and dew Julia Willow Dressed in leaves of jade and midnight prayer Falling her leaves Lost to the breeze Branches waving, a fluttering tree Julia Willow Wrapping arms within the voice of the winds Her gown straying in moonlight and dew Julia Willow Dancing wild, green ribbons and limbs Falling her leaves Lost to the breeze Branches waving, a fluttering tree

In a cave beyond the light In a cage of shadows Questioning always what is right And which path to follow When a whisper calls my name Things will never be the same I stand to face the shadow And hear the hollow cries Feel the fear and wonder how Long must they echo in the night When a light from the crack Of the cavern calls me back And the angels singing choir To all creatures great and small Perched upon their hallowed spire Sounding the wonder of it all They pierce my breast and flood my mind The Light Eternal leaves me blind And struck dumb at the cross Of space and time down on my knee All is Love and all is Loss In everything that is to be I set a candle in the night Keep safe the flickering light

Tell me a story of what is to come Tell me a story of what has been Tell me how things come to an end Tell me how things come to be Gather ‘round then and listen well; Come and hear the story Of the Dancer, Her colours, the great bowl of tea And the field, a field of dream The Dancer, looking into her own eye, Saw there was a circle From her iris these colors she spied: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple Round and round, the colors spun out In a widening tapestry At the edges of which the colors merged Into a great bowl of tea The Dancer, swimming out into the tea, Left the colors all in a muddle Stepped out of the bowl, looked up at the stars Dripping a grey-brown puddle As the puddle dried, bright grasses to sprout From this field grew all things To leap to life, to whisper, to shout In the field, a field of Dream And so we too walked onto the field Where all things sprout up and decay Here we’ve lived, loved, laughed and cried Time will come, we too here will lay I remember her story like wisps of wind Whispered through the reeds As time wrapped around my bones Like a stone by the stream Ah — making kisses out of starlight, scattering them to the wind Gathering windswept kisses into gumdrops, Suck on the stones, spit them out again I stood within a veil of tears Crying for how things must be I awoke renewed by the stars so near And the rush of the blood pulsing through me I saw it all as a fleeting game She came, she left, again she came Spun ‘round the seasons A dancer of Joy and of pain Ah — making kisses out of starlight, scattering them to the waves Collecting waveworn kisses into sweetmeats Savor the flavors of the day

Did you see the dawn After a thousand dreams? Stories from a childhood haze Riddled in a scene Of eternity Can you see, mingled with the sea, the Sun? Pictures, leaves, memories And the stones Of an unknown home Awake, awake, awake after the dark night rains Of all the shapes and colors what then yet remains? A song for the heart A story for the mind A Stone for the soul Amid the tattered rags of work And all that’s left undone The searching and the seeing Breath on breath, one after one Under the sun Did you wait, longing at the gate alone? With flowers, words, promises And the stones Of an unknown home Awake, awake, awake after the dark night rains Of all the shapes and colors what then yet remains? A song for the heart A story for the mind A Stone for the soul

The Dove 04:58

about

B'ee is a leading figure in psychedelic folk, who has recorded under the pseudonyms In Gowan Ring and Birch Book since the mid-90s. The Serpent And The Dove is his 8th album. It is also In Gowan Ring's 5th album after a 13-year hiatus.

A modern-day troubadour, B'ee makes his own instruments, travels the world and bring back a myriad of musical influences. 60s psychedelic folk and early music remain his main sources of inspiration, though.

"The Serpent And The Dove recounts an alchemical journey through a luminous garden around the Living Tree; there is a serpent… and a dove. A candle flame flickers in the night, illuminating the face of a wandering sage sitting by a stream.

He sings a story about a cosmic dancer which he'd heard whispered through the reeds: her rainbow eyes, her bowl of tea, and a field of dreams out of which grew the universe and all that we can see... There are willows; there are masks of leaves; there are thousands of bees." – B'ee –

Thirteen years after his previous album, In Gowan Ring continues to enchant and takes us back to the essence of what we are.
